Truck Driver, General Labor

Employees in this classification perform a variety of tasks in maintaining and repairing town roads and their right of way. Work activities may include, but not be limited to, the following: road surface, culverts, signs and guardrails, equipment operation, and general road maintenance. This employee operates a truck and snow plow as well as other road equipment in the performance of work assigned. This employee reports to the road superintendent and performs work only as assigned by the superintendent.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Patrols assigned sections of town roads.
  2. Operates truck, snow plow, mower, tractor, end loader, power saw and other road maintenance machinery and vehicles.
  3. Must be available and on call 24 hours a day for snowplowing and emergencies.
  4. Maintains road signage, roadside vegetation, ditching, shouldering, roadside mowing, snow fences and guardrails, disposes of debris and dead animals or obstructions on road, may act as flagman to regulate traffic.
  5. Maintains culverts and road surfaces.
  6. Maintains equipment as directed by the superintendent.
  7. Performs work as related or assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Essential job functions of this position include a significant amount of standing, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, Reaching and lifting and carrying a range of weight up to 75 pounds;
  2. Knowledge of general highway and winter maintenance, repair, tools, and equipment;
  3. Knowledge of occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in performing maintenance and repair work;
  4. Skill in the use and repair of tools and equipment used in general maintenance, construction and repair work;
  5. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions;
  6. Possession of valid Wisconsin driver’ s license and commercial driver’s license;
  7. Knowledge of diesel mechanics;
  8. Graduation from high school and 3 years’ experience with a state, county or town road department or equivalent experience.
