April 1st, 2024 Construction Work Notice

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will begin construction work along WIS 83 on Monday, April 1st.

The WIS 83 project will improve 4 miles of roadway including:

  • Retaining wall replacement
  • Guardrail replacement
  • Pavement base patching
  • Drainage structure adjustments
  • Asphaltic milling and resurfacing
  • Curb ramp improvements

  • WIS 83 will be CLOSED and DETOURED between WIS 167 and Monroe Ave
  • Side road access will be maintained across WIS 83
  • Local access will be maintained—drivers with destinations in the closure should access their destination from the nearest cross road if possible

What does ‘Road Closed to Thru Traffic’ mean?

This means the road is closed to vehicles that do not have an origin or destination within the work zone. If you have a destination within the closure, you can access by slowly proceeding through the staggered barricades at the nearest cross road.

I don’t live on 83, but I need to get through to get to an appointment, can I drive through?

You cannot. If you do not have a specific destination within the closure, you should follow the posted detour or find an alternate route. Through traffic drivers who choose to use closed roads are subject to traffic tickets.
